Brief Murad Acne Complex Review

This three-part acne system was created by Dr. Howard Murad, who is a leading researcher in skincare. The three parts of this system are the Clarifying Cleanser, the Exfoliating Treatment Gel, and the Skin Perfecting Lotion. This process should be done twice a day, morning, and evening. On Murad's company web site, they claim that their success rate is 90% within 4 weeks. However, we didn't find any results from their "clinical study" that backs up this claim.

Murad Acne Complex Ingredients

The main ingredient in the Murad cleanser is Salicylic Acid. This is one of the best acne-fighting ingredients available today. It wipes away the dead skin cells as well as other clogging substances that cause acne. It also promotes re-growth of healthy skin cells. However, most research concludes that a concentration of at least 2% should be used. Murad only uses 1.5% concentration.

The Exfoliating Treatment gel inside of the Murad Acne Complex contains more Salicylic acid in a lower concentration as well as Retinol and Glycolic Acid. The Retinol is designed to help cut down on and control oil production in the skin. However, it is not usually proven as effective as Silicol Dioxide. Glycolic Acid can also cause some negative reactions to this exfoliant. However, the concentration of Glycolic acid is so low in this product that it would probably be ineffective.

The Perfecting Lotion includes more Retinol and a variety of botanicals, such as Queen of Meadow and Arnica. These ingredients are intended to soothe the skin irritation caused by acne and improve the complexion. Queen of Meadow supposedly tightens the pores and minimizes oil production. However, there is no scientific research evident to back this up.

1. The Murad acne website does contain a lot of information about treating and preventing acne and other skin issues.
2. There are also numerous testimonials (including videos) of many satisfied customers. They even claim that 90% of users saw strong improvement in 4 weeks or less.
3. It is also promising that the company uses Salicylic acid as opposed to some of the harsher chemicals used today. However, it would be more beneficial if they used a slightly higher concentration. Their concentration of Salicylic acid inside of the Murad Acne Complex isn't as high as most acne treatments available.
   

Negatives

1. The website should list more thorough research on some of the botanicals used in their acne treatment.
2. There is no free trial offered of this product, but they do offer a money-back guarantee should you not be satisfied with the product.
3. Murad offers an automatic shipment program, so you have to beware that if you don't cancel right away, you will be automatically be billed each month for another acne treatment supply.
4. Some users have reported that the Exfoliating Gel can actually make your skin oilier. That's pretty interesting because the exfoliating gel should help reduce your oil production, not make it worse.

Overall, the Murad acne web site is pretty impressive, but there is no clinical evidence to support the acne treatment's effectiveness. In our opinion, this acne product is more hype and less substance.

We also don't endorse companies that provide "auto-ship" programs. Most users that buy Murad acne complex don't realize that they will be automatically rebilled every single month unless they cancel right away. These are shady billing practices, and its just not worth the hassle for an acne treatment that is just mediocre. There are several other acne treatments that are more effective than Murad and don't use shady billing tactics to try and make a few extra bucks.
