Brief Proactiv Solution Review

Proactiv is one of the most heavily advertised acne treatments on the market today. Much of their success may be attributed to the wide variety of celebrities that they use to endorse their product. While their advertising campaign is quite impressive, there is much more to acne treatment than mere endorsement from a famous face.

Proactiv consists of a simple 3-step process involving their Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner and Repairing Lotion. This process is not only designed to treat current acne, but also to prevent further breakouts from occurring. It works by unclogging your pores and killing the bacteria within. It is not a cure, so you do have to continue using the product even after your skin is cleared to prevent further acne.

Proactiv Ingredients

The only active ingredient found in Proactiv is Benzoyl Peroxide. This same ingredient can also be found in numerous other over-the-counter, anti-acne medications at a much cheaper price. Proactiv is quite expensive considering the lack of advanced compounds in its formula.

Benzoyl Peroxide has long been used to remove dead skin cells. Unfortunately it can also dry out the skin causing it to flake and itch. As a result, several new ingredients have been added to current anti-acne medications. Salicylic Acid, Silicol Dioxide and Inflacin are a few of these. Unfortunately Proactiv does not include these ingredients.

Advantages

1. On the positive side, the Proactiv website is very thorough and informative. They do offer an impressive array of testimonials as well as a free trial offer.
2. They claim that their acne treatment system will work on anyone regardless of age, skin type or the severity of your acne. While this certainly is an incredible claim, it is highly unlikely that any ONE product could treat EVERY type of skin and acne condition.

Disadvantages

1. No extensive scientific study has really been done to prove the effectiveness of Proactiv.
2. Most people that use the product report experiencing dry, flaky skin; itching; and reddening of the skin. As with anything absorbed into your skin, it has to pass through your liver.
3. The harsh chemicals found in Proactiv acne system can end up aggravating your skin even more rendering the medication ineffective.

The Bottom Line

Proactiv is yet another rather expensive acne treatment that does nothing to get to the root of the cause of your acne. It may work for you or it may create new skin problems for you (as it does in over half of its users). The only real way to cure acne is to find out what is causing it and get to the source of the problem.
