Vilantae is one of the few acne treatments that is not a topical cream, but rather a capsule formula taken three times a day with each meal. It is designed to prevent acne before it even starts. Vilantae works based on the assumption that acne is caused by excess oil in the skin. Reducing oil production in the skin then causes the acne to dissipate. Unfortunately, not all acne is caused by excess oil in the skin, so Vilantae does not address those factors (heredity, cosmetic use, stress, menstruation, hormonal changes, etc.). It is not a cure, merely a possible treatment.

How Does Vilantae Work?

The active ingredient in Vilantae is d-Calcium Pantothenate, which is a specific form of vitamin B5. Research done in 1997 concluded that this nutrient increases the production of a specific enzyme (coenzyme A) that improves acne. This enzyme counteracts the production of oil in the skin. While this theory does seem to make sense, it does have some drawbacks.

To consume the needed amount of d-Calcium Pantothenate you would need to take 20 capsules a day! To maintain a smooth complexion after the initial treatment, 15 capsules a day is required. This could be rather inconvenient to say the least. The manufacturers argue that since the capsule is full of all-natural ingredients, it does not matter how much you consume.

While extensive studies have been done on the benefits of d-Calcium Pantothenate, unfortunately the initial study of Vilantae only consisted of 20 people. Studies involving more people would need to be done before we could truly know how beneficial this treatment could be on a variety of skin types.

Advantages

  1. You don’t need to worry about using a variety of acne creams or treatments that dry out the skin. (Although one might wonder how does a pill that reduces the oil in your skin, NOT dry out your skin?)
  2. Vilantae also works well for long-time acne sufferers who are not usually affected by environmental factors.
  3. It is also possible to obtain Vilantae in a liquid form which would reduce all the pill-popping. However, it is still important to spread out the amount you take throughout the day; otherwise it will leave your body all at once and result in a breakout or prolong the acne you already have.

Disadvantages

  1. There are some possible side effects to using Vilantae. Many users have noted that when they first start taking the product their acne actually gets worse before it improves.
  2. Other side effects reported include diarrhea; stomach irritation, and headaches.

Vilantae Review Conclusion

In our opinion, this acne product does work to a certain extent. However, we believe this acne treatment is a little over-priced and really isn't worth the $42 the comapny is charging for a 1 month supply of Vilantae pills. This acne product doesn't actually treat the source of acne at the root of the problem, so you will probably have to continue taking it in order to maintain a clear skin.
